We all have insurance of some kind, and while this may be taken out begrudgingly, this essential service can save you frustration and money in the long term.

DID YOU KNOW?
- You can reduce your premium by increasing your excess. Most insurers apply a zero excess to all sections of cover if you are 55 or older. You can use this benefit to reduce yourpremium by applying a voluntary excess.
- Damage caused by load shedding is not covered by your Household Insurance. Planned outages are not insured events. Protect your appliances by using power surge protection plugs.
- You should never admit liability at the scene of an accident, even if it is obviously your fault. This prejudices your Insurer’s rights when processing the claim.
- Your valuable jewellery can be insured at a much lower rate if it is kept in a bank safety deposit box or at home in a secure safe and not worn.
- If you score a hole in one while playing golf or a full house in bowls your Insurer will pay you R2000 under your Householders insurance.
- Most Insurers offer a “home drive” and “convenience drive” service as part of their Assist Programme. This service operates similarly to an Uber drive, but is limited to a certain number of drives per year.
